Andrea Locatelli learns quickly and after the podiums achieved in the Netherlands and the Czech Republic, he competed in a Grand Prix of Navarra constantly among the firsts.
In the year of his debut in the Top-class of the derivate series championship, the defending World Champion of the WorldSSP continues his constant growth that now leads him to fight with the top riders. The three races scheduled for the weekend of Navarra, where the homonymous Grand Prix was held, he finished in the fourth position just a short distance from the podium and, if it were not for a small contact at the beginning of Race2, the result could also be different. Andrea has now lost awe against well most experienced opponents and with the points achieved this weekend he has taken the fifth place in the championship rankings.
Andrea Locatelli: “It’s another great weekend for us because we make three times P4. In the races today we improved a little bit, but I made a mistake when I tried to pass Redding in the first lap of Race 2, then Redding tried to pass me and I went a little bit wide. Then in the braking of Turn 9 Lowes touched me and I went off the track and then I am in seventh or eighth position… I tried to push on the maximum to get into my “standard” position of P4 and when I arrived there I try to follow the front riders but I couldn’t close the gap. In the end, this is okay and I try to make my own rhythm and I finish the race with another P4. We work very well and for sure now we have Magny-Cours and it’s a new track for me with the R1 superbike. I have seen it before last year but I need to take some reference with this bike but I think we can do very well also in France. I’m very happy about this weekend and the guys work very well!”
Unlucky Manuel Gonzalez instead who unfortunately after an excellent performance in practice, during the race on Saturday had a high side that in projecting him into the air, also caused him the leakage of the right shoulder. Promptly treated, the rider from Madrid would be joined in Race2 on Sunday but the Medical Direction considered him unfit and then, to see him back on track, we have to wait for the next race in France, at Magny Cours, scheduled in fifteen days.
